About The Workshops
Nature/Outdoor photography is one of the fastest growing, and we think,
rewarding outdoor recreational activities in North America. Spending time
outdoors with a camera not only focuses our attention on the natural beauty
around us, but helps to strengthen our connection to the environment.
Whether you enjoy photographing wildflowers, the grand landscape, streams,
forests, or wildlife, let us help you develop the technical skills and
creative vision that will allow you to capture nature’s endless beauty
digitally or on film.

Each workshop offers participants an intensive introduction to nature
photography. Workshops emphasize small group, hands-on instruction, and are
limited to 14 people. Participants can expect a variety of instructional
experiences, each designed to expand their understanding of the creative and
technical aspects of nature photography. A portion of each workshop will be
taught indoors where instructors will use slide presentations and
demonstrations to illustrate photographic techniques, concepts, and
equipment. In addition to classroom activities, participants will get the
opportunity to apply newly acquired skills and techniques in the field.
Much of our time together will be spent photographing Vermont’s boundless
natural beauty as the instructors provide expert individualized and group
instruction.
Each workshop will emphasize basic to intermediate techniques utilized by
successful nature photographers. Topics include
:- importance of a tripod - working with
light
-
metering (film and digital) - composition and
working your
subject
-
effective use of lenses - close-ups in nature
-
filters -
film/digital
In order to optimize our time together, workshops will begin on Friday
evening with an orientation and introductions, as well as an instructional
slide show. We will reconvene on Saturday morning for lectures and slide
presentations. The afternoon and early evening will be spent learning and
photographing in the field. On Sunday we will begin bright and early with
a sunrise shoot and continue where we left off Saturday evening. The
workshop will conclude early Sunday afternoon allowing ample time to return
home.
Workshop participants are required to provide their own transportation,
lodging, meals, and photo supplies. We strongly encourage participants to
carpool and dine together, thus conserving natural resources and optimizing
our learning opportunities. In addition, all workshop participants should
have a 35mm DSLR or film camera with interchangeable lens capability, as
well as a sturdy tripod. Although the instructors are familiar with
many features offered on today’s camera systems, it is assumed that each
participant has good working knowledge of his/her camera.
